Background

Chris is an experienced Managing Director and Senior Executive with a track record of delivering top line growth, profit improvement and establishing platforms for sustainable business success. During a career working in blue‐chip, multinational organisations, SME’s, private enterprise and business start‐up, he has developed an approach to business improvement that encompasses the formulation of strategy, implementation through engagement at all levels within an organisation, whilst establishing the business platforms necessary to ensure long‐term sustainability and success.

A passionate believer in employee engagement, Chris believes that there is no limit to what can be achieved, when working with motivated and committed teams.

A Chartered Engineer with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering from The University of Birmingham, Chris spent the first 14 years of his post‐graduate career working for Unilever in increasingly senior roles in engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, project and general management. Working with brands such as Flora, Bertolli, Olivio, PG Tips, Lipton, Knorr and Mattessons Walls, he developed a deep‐seated understanding of supply chain and operations and how, when managed effectively, these can positively support and drive business change.

In 2005, Chris left Unilever to complete a business start‐up (which continues to run successfully) and in 2007 joined Dairy Crest as part of the senior management team within the Dairies Division. From Site General Manager to Sites Director, overseeing all of the plants within the glass bottling division, the period from 2007 to 2012 saw a number of significant site turnaround successes, the harmonisation of the division to secure profitable, national supply and the re‐building of a successful union relationship to establish collaborative, partnership ways of working.

In 2012, Chris joined Crown Packaging, one of the world’s largest food and beverage metal packaging companies as Operations Director for the UK and Ireland. The formulation and implementation of a regional strategy, re‐structuring and the application of lean manufacturing to drive business performance saw the region return to profit. Following this success, Chris was appointed to the role of European Operations Director within the Food Division. Responsible for large‐scale plants in France, Germany and the UK, improvements were made in supply performance and security through European harmonisation and establishment of a common technology platform.

At the end of 2014, Chris joined Vitacress, one of Europe’s leading fresh salad and herbs companies, as Group Supply Chain Director. Owning farm, manufacturing and logistics operations in the UK, Portugal and Spain, key to the company’s success was establishing a strategy that optimised the vertically integrated supply chain. Productivity improvements, consolidation projects and the introduction of continuous improvement programmes delivered significant profit growth. In 2016, Chris was appointed as Managing Director of Vitacress Salads Limited and over the next two and a half years led the formulation and implementation of a 5 Year Growth Strategy, re‐building the business and establishing programmes such as Continuous Improvement and Employee Engagement. Commercial success followed, along with 10% year on year EBITDA growth.

In 2018, Chris joined Newey Limited as Group Managing Director, overseeing a company comprising seven horticultural businesses. Having completed a strategic review, formulated and launched the business strategy, implementation plan and established key business functions, in 2019, Chris joined Tinderbox.

Throughout a career with responsibility for formulating and implementing strategy, developing leadership capability and introducing the business platforms necessary for long term sustainability, Chris’ aspiration is to share his experience with businesses that strive for success and growth.
