‘I Can’t Believe How Stupid I Was 2 Weeks Ago…’

A great quote that we read last week – but what relevance does this quote have in the world of business?

We at Tinderbox have a five pronged approach to ensure that our clients grow profitably and one of those ‘prongs’ is the willingness and the ability of our client and their people to ‘harness know-how’ – know-how being knowledge that is appropriate to and pertinent to, their business goals.

Going back to the quote what’s happened here then? How can one be less stupid than they were a couple of weeks ago? It is all about learning. Knowledgeable as we may feel we are there are no limits to how we can improve our knowledge – but only if we open our minds to be willing to learn and in some cases change. The smartest people and the smartest leaders in business never close the book of learning and aways have an open mind – a mind that continually searches for new ideas, things that have worked for others, knowledge and tactics from markets that may not be close to the market they operate in but that could be adaptable, useable and market leading in their own market.

Being open to learning and keeping an eye on what is happening around you, not only in your market but in others too, could provide you and your business with great competitive advantages and the opportunity to lead your market just as many of our clients have done to date. There are far too many businesses out there that stop looking, stop learning and never get beyond (for example) ‘that will never work in this market’. This is the road to stagnation, the road to becoming an also ran or even worse, the road to oblivion.

So sharpen your mind and the minds of your people, open it up to those things that you previously would have ignored and think ‘what if we were able to? That might be possible. Let’s explore.’

You’ll be pleasantly surprised at both what you find and if implemented, the difference it could make to your business fortunes.

“When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”
