Background
Ian started his career with London Transport and whilst graduating spent six years in engineering and business management roles. Experience from designing the train performance software for the new generation tube trains led to Ian joining BT in Digital Telecoms in London, managing the BT Tower repeater station at the age of 24.
As the Telecoms industry transitioned to digital, Ian moved on to Cable and Wireless as IT Director for 4 years which culminated in an MBO at the age of 35. On exit, Ian took a leadership role with Siemens to launch their IT and Business Process Outsourcing business. He successfully secured and delivered large outsourcing contracts with banks, government departments, and local authorities to transform and automate their business process operations. Ian led the outsourced BBC Technology Ltd leading to a board role with Siemens North West Europe in 2008, exiting when the business was sold to ATOS in 2011.
On exit, Ian successfully established a business consultancy focussed on bids and tenders initially within the railway infrastructure supply chain. This led to a contract with Canon Europe to set up a pan-European bids and tenders function working with 3D printing and technology automation of business processes.
As part of his ongoing consultancy, Ian took a long-term interim role with SSE Enterprise Telecoms to accelerate their sales growth, and successfully step-change their strategic development culminating in the sale to Infracapital in 2018.
Ian is an acknowledged strategic thinker who enjoys the challenges posed by problems and opportunities in business. He is also recognised as a leader who inspires, empowers and mentors others to achieve success which they never thought possible.
